WHY? Maintaining emotional barriers IMHO prevents me from forming bonding caring lasting relationships and is a self-defeating and destructive behaviour.
Another AWESOME intent, Andy! The old adage about "familiarity breeding contempt" is just another one of those old sayings that has it 180 degrees from truth. In my life I have found that the more transparent I am the CLOSER people become, and the more transparent they are, the more I desire to be with them, support them -- in a word, LOVE them. As each of us shows our vulnerabilities and frailties we can see that we are all the same -- all one -- and since fear is the opposite of love, seeing ourselves in another releases the fear, leaving us only the Love!
I agree that the more transparent we/they are the closer we become. I recently had my eyes opened to this after a heated discussion with a very dear friend. I would rather die than lose my friend and told him I was ceasing the vile behaviours and living with my walls down with him and if that left me vulnerable and hurt then so be it. And then thought I need to be this way with everyone and in my life. I am making some significant changes in my life - for the better :) Thanks for the support! :)
It is interesting because I actually I am on the opposite pole of the spectrum... I let people in very easily, not afraid of letting them in, possibly a form of strenght. While I enjoy being me with very few boundaries sometimes others get to know more how I am than I knowing them. Sometimes in realtionships, being an open book is not the best. This is nothing to do with others, I need to find the balance, boundaries vs. openess.
Awesome intent...the biggest illusion is the illusion of separation..
