I intend to take a year off from work and explore what matters to my life.

WHY? I don't know exactly what my dream is, and I want to take this year to explore what I really want in life.

HOW TO HELP: Suggest what I can do in this year. I love food, writing, photography, foreign culture and make people happy.

Travel...Asia, especially India then go to Nepal after. It's a guaranteed eye and heart opener...100% guaranteed :-)

Do everything you love and go where your heart calls you. That IS your dream, and your purpose. You don't even have to think about it...when you feel free and blissful, you're living your dream!! Enjoy :)

having finished my own year as the others have said, listen to the Heart, travel about and travel within, sit with nature, and walk the streets and neighborhoods and as you see the faces listen to your Heart and let your Love pour forth. Learn the magical music of silence and the breath of each precious moment. The rest will follow. Namaste my friend....a marvelous journey.

I think the greatest gift you can give yourself is to not plan out the entire year. Instead approach each day with a sense of openness and awareness. By being present, you'll be able to naturally and joyfully uncover what matters to you. Blessings!

stretch, soften and do so by living in a new country and becoming ever more humble within...then create art out of the exoeriences...and then extend it to 10 years and see the difference in your blossoming soul and character

I am touched! Thank you everybody for the suggestions and blessings! But is it really okay not to plan ahead? I am so worried that I will be wasting a year.

giggle my friend, yes, you can "plan" but know the journey, the path, is one of choices and Flow. You cannot "waste" a year if you listen to your heart. Part planned perhaps - like travel, giggle, just can't show up at an airport and say I want to fly!" Just remember, a year off from work allows you to be in the Moment, unstructured and free. Visualize and listen to your heart. You will know what to plan, what to move towards and just remain detached from the outcome. Moment by moment. It will be grand! My own journey has been. Savor these moments of reflecting and release to the gentle Sweet Hands of Life... giggle, don't start your journey with fret! oh giggle.

That is such a fantastic idea. From personal experience I lost everything in an earthquake and decided to quit my job even though I had a mortgage to pay (on a house I couldn't live in) and go travelling. I visited Japan and North America and it was such a beautiful, spiritual and enlightening experience. Not only did I find parts of myself that had been missing for a long time I made some of the most understanding, supporting and encouraging friends I could ever have wished for. Do what is right for you not what others think is right for you. You only have one life in this vessel called this body so go and have fun and make the most out of your time on the planet ;-)

What if I get a really good job offer? Should I still go for the year off?

There is no more important job then becoming your authentic self....
It is in the inner work we do that brings the true reward..
If you can financially swing it, take the time .
So at the end of your day you can rest in the arms of your authentic self, and walk into the uncertainty of life without fear or hidden agendas....namaste
