I teach 5th/6th graders (social studies, science, ELA) in an affluent Texas school district. Each of my charges are innately aware of the actions of those around them. Especially those of authorities; their parents, their heroes. Even those far away, often resulting in the negative mimicking that surrounds their world inside the belly of the media - that fleeting albatross called fame. I am forever aware of my actions; but more importantly my *words* - do not forget the words. They coincide and are crucial.
Kids learn most from their immediate surroundings/people that are a major part of their lives be it at school, family, friends which is all the more reason that as care takers/parents we're consciously aware of our words and actions.
May you set a phenomenal example for your kids! :)
This is the only thing we really learn, that from our parents and teachers and how they behave.
Very good intent, Mallika.
Supported with pleasure and love.
